Natural disasters, public health emergencies, and climate-related crises have a devastating impact on vulnerable communities. Families lose their homes, livelihoods, food security, and access to essential services, often leaving them with little means to recover.
At Janvikas Samajik Sanstha (JVSS), we respond swiftly to emergencies by providing immediate humanitarian assistance while supporting long-term recovery and resilience. Our disaster relief efforts extend beyond emergency aid, helping families rebuild their lives, restore livelihoods, and prepare for future challenges.

What We Do
COVID-19 Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, JVSS provided large-scale humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations, including migrant, daily wage, and construction workers. In coordination with government authorities, we supplied emergency food, grocery kits, temporary housing, and facilitated safe travel for stranded laborers back to their home states. To support frontline efforts, JVSS distributed N95 masks, sanitizers, and protective gear to medical staff, police, sanitation workers, ASHA workers, teachers, and banking personnel, while also providing equipment to local healthcare facilities. Additionally, we extended long-term food security and support to families who lost their primary earning members during this challenging period.
Drought Relief & Water Security
Recurring droughts across Maharashtra severely affected agriculture, livestock, food security, and rural livelihoods, forcing families to migrate and increasing farmer distress. JVSS responded with comprehensive drought relief initiatives addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term water conservation. Our interventions included food and nutrition support for vulnerable families, fodder distribution for livestock, and the construction of drinking water storage systems and tanks. To ensure long-term water security, we undertook borewell development, well rejuvenation, river and lake restoration, dam desilting, and watershed improvement activities. These efforts successfully increased water storage capacity, restored agricultural productivity, improved drinking water access, and strengthened climate resilience in drought-affected communities.
Rebuilding Livelihoods
Disaster recovery extends beyond relief. Families need opportunities to rebuild their lives. JVSS supported vulnerable households, including families affected by farmer suicides and natural disasters, by providing livelihood assistance such as livestock, flour mills, agricultural support, and other income-generating assets. By combining emergency relief with livelihood restoration, we enabled families to regain financial stability and move toward long-term self-reliance.
Flood Relief & Rehabilitation
Severe floods caused by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers left hundreds of families without homes, belongings, and basic necessities. JVSS provided immediate humanitarian assistance by establishing temporary shelters and distributing emergency relief kits containing food, blankets, clothing, and other essential household items. Our relief efforts helped affected families meet their immediate needs while supporting their transition toward recovery and rehabilitation.
