Goat Rearing Creating Livelihood Opportunities for a Tribal Family
Rajashree Rajesh Jadhav, a resident of Aagar Danda, belongs to the Adivasi community and lives with her family of five members. The family depended mainly on irregular daily wage labour, which made it difficult to meet their basic needs and plan for a more secure future. Starting a small livelihood activity was always a challenge due to lack of financial resources. To support families like hers, Janvikas Samajik Sanstha, with financial support from Worley Services India, helped Rajashree initiate a small goat rearing activity as a sustainable source of livelihood. The initiative began with the support of one Osmanabadi goat. Over time, the goat gave birth to three kids, two male and one female expanding her livestock assets to four goats. This small but meaningful intervention has started creating an additional source of income for her family while strengthening their financial resilience. The growing livestock provides opportunities for future income through breeding and sale, offering Rajashree and her family a pathway towards improved economic stability.
